Notice anything different??!!
Welcome to my new blog - A Green and Rosie Life.
Today is the anniversary of when I wrote my first blog post. Eight years ago. Gosh, can it really be that long? Mind you I know of one blogger whose blog will be a teenager this year! Simon actually started the blog here on February 5th 2008 but it wasn't until March 20th 2008 that I first committed finger to keyboard.
Originally the blog was meant as a means of keeping friends and family in touch with what we were doing here in France and to be honest, I have no idea how many people, if any, read anything that either Simon or I posted. However as we neared getting the gite ready to open we got a surprise email from a Dutch family asking if we would be open by July 17th 2010 as they wanted to book, having read about the gite on the blog. Well, that certainly focussed our progress and we did indeed get the gite finished (JUST) and welcomed our first family thanks to the blog.
From then on I realised the blog had potential as a marketing tool not just a diary of what we were up to but it did have one problem for our SEO as it was not actually connected to our website. So early this year we created a new website with a blog attached which rather left this original blog a bit in limbo. After 8 years of writing I did not want to just let it disappear, I wanted to develop it and take it further which is why, today, I am relaunching as the name you see above:
"A Green and Rosie Life"
The Eco-Gites of Lenault website blog will focus on posts about France, Normandy whilst A Green and Rosie Life will concentrate on how we can all work together to live that little bit more of a green (and rosy) life. Topics will include:
- Growing food -
- Our natural world -
- Helping everyone to be that bit greener -
- Bringing children and nature together -
- Cooking with seasonal and foraged ingredients -
- Supporting local businesses - (especially independent holiday home owners) -
- I also have a new linky planned once I can finalise details in my mind -
This blog will also have one more major difference now in that I hope to actually raise some money from my ramblings and details of what I would like to get involved in will follow shortly. In the meantime I would just like to welcome you all to A Green and Rosie Life. Please do come and follow all my new social media pages (links in the side bar) and then join in with the one-off linky below:
My First Blog Post Linky
- I invite you to link up your fist ever blog post, although if it is simply a "Welcome to Blogging" post you are more than welcome to link up your first "proper" post.

Good luck with your new blog Rosie!
ReplyDeleteI think I first heard about you when you were first renovating your gite, via the Downsizer forum, and have been reading your blog ever since then, so thank you!
Aw, thank you - I really must pop back over to DS again, it's such a lovely forum. Do you still visit?
DeleteCongratulations on your very impressive longevity, an 8 year old blog is rare (and a teenaged blog is practically unheard of!) Good luck with your green and rosie life :-) (That deserved a smiley if ever a sentence did!)
ReplyDeleteThank you - it took a while for me to really get going with blogging but I am so glad I started. I've met so many lovely people through it :)
DeleteForgot to say I've been blogging for nearly 4 years, and I'm not appalled by my first post, I don't mind it at all, I even got a couple of comments, but it didn't have any tags or metadata (which I added today!) so I'm very surprised to see it's been shared 12 times on FB (why???) and I said I miht write the odd post in French...well that has yet to happen!!!!
ReplyDeleteMine had no images or anything and the only comments were from you a few days ago when we were talking about it! I am however hoping a friend will also link up her first post that was also about rhubarb!
DeleteHave linked up and good luck with your new direction I look forward to reading your new posts. Maybe we could collaborate at some point!
ReplyDeleteThank you and definitely -do drop me an email if you have any ideas.
DeleteCongratulations Rosie! Eight years is a big achievement, particularly so from someone who has only been blogging since last June!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't realised it was so long until I was chatting with a friend. I can't imagine not blogging now though.
DeleteYaaay Happy Birthday to your blog and good luck on the new blog. :-) #myfirstblogpost
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Emma - I love your blog too :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to your blog! 8 years is amazing! I have been blogging for just over 3 years.
ReplyDeleteI probably started in earnest about 3 years ago.
DeleteWOW. Happy Blogiversary...eight years that's amazing! I am very glad that I can across your blog...its fantastic. What a great idea for a linky. I will look forward to seeing some other bloggers first ever posts! #MyFirstBlogPost
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - the linky does seem to be something people are enjoying.
DeleteHappy blogiversary - 8 years is a long time - looking forward to the new direction, and I"m not surprised by the colour green :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha - my user name on the first forum I ever joined, even before I started blogging, was Green Rosie!
DeleteHappy Blogoversary Rosie! Look forward to seeing what you're up to next :)
ReplyDeleteI've linked my first ever blog post and also my first on a different platform.
Fabulous idea!
Thank you - I am glad the idea popped into my head - I was dog walking which is often my best tome for ideas.
DeleteHow exciting! Congrats on the new blog and best of luck! Great idea for a linkup -- happy to take part!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane.
DeleteHappy 8 blogging years! That's very impressive! I started mine almost two months ago so still a newbie. Good luck with your new one, I'll keep following.
ReplyDeleteHere's looking forward to celebrating your 8 year blogiversary :)
DeleteHappy birthday to the blog - and thank you for the inspiration to go back and re-read my first ones. Not too embarrassing (although quite a difference remembering being pregnant). I also realised it's officially about 4 years since I started - still only half way to your tally.
ReplyDeleteI bet few of us pop back and read those early posts.
DeleteI love the new name! My very first blog post is (thankfully) lost to the depths of the internet, but I've linked up the first one from this blog :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jessica.
DeleteYay, love the relaunch! Congrats on 8 years, it's our 4th blogaversary this month, hopefully we'll make it to 8 too!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do too and thank you :)
DeleteRosie this is a wonderful linky idea! I'll be spending a bit of time going through reading as many as of these I can. Congrats on your 8th blogiversary =)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was a bit worried people might not want to show off their first post but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.
DeleteAck, I forgot about this! I've just linked-in. But it's my first blog post with Wordpress... Before that I was with blogger and before that I was with Livejournal... I think I've been blogging on and off for more than a decade now. Happy 8th! :) That is a long time xxx
ReplyDeleteWow - a decade. Fabulous!
DeleteWow - 8 years of blogging! I started blogging about 10 years ago but didn't stick with it consistently. Good luck with the new blog! #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteThe first few years were a touch sporadic but now I blog regularly on both blogs!
DeleteHi Rosie, you really are an old time blogger and I don't blame you for not wanting to leave your blog behind. I hope your new look blog continues to grow for many more years to come.
ReplyDeletexx
Thank you Debbie :)
DeleteHow exciting, 8 years eh?! Good luck with the new blog!
ReplyDeleteI've been blogging for just over 4 years, although now I blog a lot more than I did back then!! :)
Same here, I was somewhat sporadic to begin with.
DeleteLove this idea for a link up, I've been blogging for 4 years now and I'd totally forgotten what my first post was about!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new blog Rosie xx
Thank you - I will be along in due course to find out what that first post was.
DeleteHappy blogoversary lovely. Wow 8 years, that is impressive. Hope you had cake. I've linked up with you, first blog post is a lovely idea. And thanks for linking up #abitofeverything x
ReplyDeleteNo cake as I was home alone and leaving me with a cake alone would not be good! The boys and Simon were up in Paris watching the rugby 6 Nations Final which gave me time alone to do all the blog changes.
