Animal Tales 50

Welcome to Animal Tales, the blog linky that brings together all sorts of animal blog posts from all over the world.  It runs from Tuesday morning thought to Thursday night and showcases a wide range of animal related posts.

Piglet Naming and Sexing

Whilst I was aware that there Coco has both boy and girl piglets, as we will be selling some of them soon I thought it might be a good idea to identify and sex each of them.  Now, let me ask you a question.  Have you ever tried to sex a piglet?  No?  Let me tell you, then - you'd think it would be easy but with 10, often very similar, exceedingly fast-running and somewhat hairy piglets cavorting round and always putting their tails down when you decide to peer at their read ends it is NOT easy.

But I got there ...

Boys - Runty, Runty's Only Slightly Bigger Almost Totally Orange Mate, Black Leg, Orange With One BIG Spot, Orange and Spotty With Hairy Toggles and Peachy.

Girls - Brown and White No 1, Brown and White Number 2, Pale and Spotty, Peach and Spotty.

Hmmmm - all very well except reading back I realised there were more orange and spotty piglets than I had accounted for and therefore Pale and Spotty was in fact also Peach and Spotty.

Ho hum and back to chasing orange spotty piglets around until I eventually deduced that I was missing Orange With A Big Spot on HIS Nose ie another boy.

So - 3 girls and 7 boys .... I think!!

But now looking at them in this picture I am still not sure who the 3 orange spotty ones are although I can recognise Runty at the front left and his mate behind him, Peachy right at the back and one of the Brown and White Girls second from the right.  Anyone fancy coming over here and working out who the others are?!

Last week

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week and as ever there were some great posts.  The post from Jera's Jamboree made me chuckle though as it appears it is not only us humans who get tired at our computers!

Over to you now.  Please add your posts below. The posts can be old or new and as varied as the animals who we share our world with. If you tweet with the hashtag #AnimalTales I'll retweet you. Just give me a nudge if I appear to have forgotten you.

Full details of the linky can be found here but can I remind people of a couple of the "rules":
  • Please can you comment on at least 2 other blogs linked up - that is, after all the whole purpose of joining a linky to find and comment on more blogs and hopefully drive traffic back to your blog.
  • Please can you include my badge (preferably) or a link back to this blog.
  • Pinterest - not a rule but for even greater exposure of your blog post please do join the Animal Tales Pinterest board and pin a picture from your linked posts.
  • Can I remind people not to add sponsored posts or paid-for reviews.  Eco-Gites of Lenault has no advertising on it and I am not comfortable promoting products or companies I know nothing about.

Please note there will be no Animal Tales over the next two weeks and it will be back in the New Year (Jan 5th 2016).  May I wish you and all your animal friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  See you next year!

  2. I've got my eyes shut! We do Christmas ham instead of Thanksgiving Turkey. Nope too late - I don't think I'll be having any ham this Christmas. The piglets are adorable!

    1. LOL, sorry. Christmas ham sounds good though - I do find roast turkey a little over-rated.

    1. LOL, once they get a bit older they calm down a bit but by then then are too big to pick up so it becomes a case at peering closely to see who has what and who does a wee how!

  4. I certainly couldn't remember who was who, I'd need to spray paint a number or something on them! Not quite so pretty though.

    1. You can buy marker pens and TBH I think I might have to do that. It does wear off after a few days but might help me be sure when we are selling them.

  5. They are adorable (but yes I see why the ID/naming is taking so long)
