Animal Tales - 33

Welcome to Animal Tales, the blog linky that brings together all sorts of animal blog posts from all over the world.  It runs from Tuesday morning thought to Friday night and showcases a wide range of animal related posts.

Sorry about last week!

Sorry there was no Animal Tales last week - we had a fabulous thunderstorm which damaged something somewhere on the phone line so for over a week we (and the whole village) had  no internet or phone.  I did manage to comment on a few blogs before we lost contact with the outside world but I apologise for still not getting round to all of you.  Do please add more than one link this week if you had one ready for last week.

Sad Bird News

We've had a run of bad luck with our birds recently.  A weasel, stoat or pine marten has been getting into the chicken shed and has killed two of our 3 young Red Orpington chickens.  We've set a trap but have not caught anything yet.  Then our extremely old chicken, Fluffy Chick, passed away - every morning for the past year or so I would open the door wondering whether she'd have made it through the night and she finally didn't a few nights ago.  She had to be 6 years old which is a great age for a chicken.  I thought with 3 deaths that would be it but then both a turkey and a young cockerel decided this life was not for them.  Turkeys are the sheep of the avian world with both species spending their time plotting ways to die.  This one probably contracted a disease called Blackhead which is fatal to turkeys and virtually impossible to treat.  As for the cockerel, I am at a loss for his demise - he had had an infected foot but I had dealt with that.  Maybe he thought he was a turkey ... or a sheep.

Hopefully that is our lot with bird deaths for a good few months ... fingers crossed.

RIP Fluffy Chick

So over to you now.  Feel free to come and add your animal related posts to the linky below.  The posts can be old or new and as varied as the animals who we share our world with. If you tweet with the hashtag #AnimalTales I'll retweet you.  Just give me a nudge if I appear to have forgotten you.

Full details of the linky can be found here but can I remind people of a couple of the "rules":

  • Please can you comment on at least 2 other blogs linked up - that is, after all the whole purpose of joining a linky to find and comment on more blogs and hopefully drive traffic back to your blog.
  • Please can you include my badge (preferably) or a link back to this blog.
  • Can I remind people not to add sponsored posts or paid-for reviews.  Eco-Gites of Lenault has no advertising on it and I am not comfortable promoting products or companies I know nothing about.

    1. Thank you. I do expect to lose some animals but it is always harder when there is such a run of losses.

  5. Oh dear, what rotten luck for your birds. My parents keep chickens and they get terribly upset when they lose one as they all have unique characters. Their garden has become a chicken graveyard. RIP avians.

    1. Somehow I hoped Fliffy Chick would last another year but even so, she is without, doubt the oldest chicken we have ever had.

    1. It's funny how some birds live so much longer than others. I miss her bossing the other younger hens around.
