Hints of Autumn

It is September 1st and after a few weeks of hot dry weather everywhere is looking rather parched ... and there are definite signs of autumn around the garden.  Apples on the trees are ripe for picking, although small after the lack of rain, leaves are starting to colour and the sedums are turning red as their tiny flowers unfurl (much to the delight of the bees and butterflies who feast on these late summer/autumn flowers).  Many of my sunflowers are still in full bloom though, with some only just starting to flower.  Hopefully summer is not ready to leave us yet but when she does depart, the garden is full of plenty of autumn and winter vegetables to see us though.

How is your garden doing?  Are you as dry as us?

Linking up with Annie over at Mammasuarus and the How Does Your Garden Grow linky.

  1. Its been nice to watch Autumn start creeping in these last few days. Your photo of the sunflower petals opening is just beautiful, especially with the light skimming the top. I'm hoping Summer still stick around just long enough for our squash at the allotment to ripen!

    1. Desperately hoping autumn here will also be kind to us gardeners in Normandy as I have so much that went in late this year and it needs time to ripen.

    1. Ha ha - you would win, no problem! We had some much needed rain yesterday with possibly more to come today. The soil is still very dry below about a cm but at least my water butts are full again.

  3. The rain has arrived these past few days so it's been slug central here :(
That sunflower half opened, half closed is a joy!
    Happy September Rosie xx

    (ps. thanks for joining in!)

    1. Even without the rain the slugs got my cabbage seedlings. I have sown more and hopefully put them high enough to be out of their reach.
