In January I dug up a rhubarb crown, split it into two and potted them up into two large pots. These I placed in the polytunnel, surrounded by bales for warmth and large pots for darkness.
Even the rhubarb I am forcing outside is only just getting started where-as this is what the polytunnel crowns had grown to today.
It yielded this which was just enough for that long awaited crumble.
This is my blog, A Green and Rosie Life, which is all about helping you live life that bit greener without having to build an off-grid log cabin in the woods or knit your own nettle fibre undies! It's about helping you make simple changes that together will make a big difference to our beautiful world and make it a better place for our children.

I love rhubarb !! What a difference between them. We have ordered a crown, should arrive soon..the ground is ready and waiting.
ReplyDeleteI've had to delete the other photos (blogger threw a wobbly) so for anyone else I can assure you that the outside crowns are just leaf knots with no sign of the all important stalk.
ReplyDeleteAAAAHHHHH! Could everyone stop talking about how wonderful their rhubarb is and posting photos too -show offs, hehe. We just don't have room on the lottie but we bought some for the mother in law's garden so here's hoping we evetually yet some yummy crumble.
ReplyDeleteLooking good! Mine is aa wee bit behind that, but not much. I've jus tplanted two new crowns too, they all grow in tyre stacks with plenty of goat manure.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely picture of the pulled sticks Rosie. I must make room for rhubarb in the garden this year...
