Festyland

Posted by Rosie

September is giving us some lovely warm and sunny weather so we decided at last to give in to the boys nagging and take them to Festyland. Festyland is a theme park on the outskirts of Caen (and clearly visible from the motorway, hence the nagging from the boys!). The rides are themed around different eras through the history of Normandy i.e. the Vikings, William the Conqueror, Pirates of the 17th century and "The Belle Epoche" of the early 20th century.

You pay one entry price and after that all the rides and shows are included so other than the obligatory ice creams, there are no additional costs once you are in. There were gifts shops selling reasonably priced, nice gifts and the food on sale looked fine, although we took a picnic. This is however, no Alton Towers. The rides are more gentle and aimed
mostly at the under 12's. There are a couple of more scary rides of which Tom didn't like the giant swinging pirate boat and both boys were too short for the bigger of the roller coasters (much to Simon's relief!).

Tom liked the smaller roller coaster and water chute the best and Ben was happiest on the quad bikes and "croc flue." We got there at around 1.30 and left just before it closed at 6pm bringing home 2 very tired but very happy boys.
