Tom and Ben's Secret Den

Posted by Rosie

The boys have been out and about recently finding and making dens.  They really wanted to show me their latest and best one ... but only if I I was to swear not to tell a soul where it is.  It is their Secret Den and they would have to do horrible things to me if I told anyone where to find it!  I agreed, although I did draw the line at being blindfolded to get there!

Off we set.

Sticks .... I mean swords and daggers were needed to protect us from brigands and vagabonds:

There was walking through streams so we left no scent for our enemies to follow!

Wild dogs were met en route ... oh no hang on, that's Poppy and Saari and they are on our side!

And then we were there - Tom and Ben's Secret Den.  It even has a fire pit and there is more which I can't show you for fear of revealing it's location.

Tom - Lord of all he can see from their Secret Den.

The great beech tree that guards over their Den.

And Saari, taking her guard dog role very seriously.

It's a great Secret Den, one the boys can be proud of and one that is giving them a lot of enjoyment.  Do you have memories of a favourite childhood den or do your children have one now? Please do let us know in a comment.  Or click on the Country Kids link below to find out what other children are doing out and about this week.

  2. I'll do my best but as the boys get older school can tend to get a bit in the way of loads of outdoor fun :(. French school hours are very long but at least the days are now getting longer!

  4. Thank you dragonsflypoppy - although in truth she is the biggest scaredy-dog there is. She's frightened of so many things and it takes 2 of us to get her through the door at the vet!

  8. Exactly Helen although it I had girls I am sure this is what they would be doing too. I certainly did when I was a child! It's very mild at the moment so they didn't get cold and luckily the water stayed below wellie height so they were dry as well :)

  13. What stunning scenery. I'm not surprised they don't want anyone to find their den - with views like that I'd want to keep it to myself too. Their very own peaceful haven!

  15. @Molly and @Linda - you are right and we are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Glad to hear your girls like den building Linda - it was one of my favourite childhood occupations too.
