Happy Meat

We're getting sheep!
Hopefully a ewe and 2 lambs will be arriving on Monday.

(Does happy sheep dance and dreams of roast lamb).




I have also arranged for one of our pigs to be turned into pâté, sausages and ham.  Making this decision is never easy but I would always rather eat our own meat knowing it has had a good life and a swift end than buy unknown meat from a shop that may not have had a happy life.  We call it our Happy Meat and Happy Sausages will be available for gite guests to buy this summer.

  1. I would love to have the chance to raise our own animals to eat. We do try to buy some pork and lamb from the local farm as much as our freezer can hold. Like you said, its so much better when you know they have had a happy life, good diet and you know exactly what has gone into the meat as far as food and medication etc is concerned.

    1. Thank you - it will be very sad but if we eat meant we must accept this and she has had a great life out in the fields.

  2. I think there is nothing better than knowing the heritage of anything you eat or drink. This is such a good thing when - as you say - they have been happy. Hope the sheep make themselves at home :) Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x

    1. Thank you Victoria - the sheep have arrived and are in a small field getting used to us. They are rather nervous at the moment but the lure of the extra food I am giving Mum is allowing me to get closer to her!

  3. I read the opening line, and never expected to read about lamb chops a sentence or two later! I bet nothing tastes better than fresh lamb chops though! Yum!

    1. LOL - sorry Danny. And you are right - once you have produced your own meat nothing else tastes anywhere near as good! We even sell some to gite guests ;)
