Friday evening "Chez Nous"

Posted by Rosie

Simon is currently in the other room, shouting at the television. Actually he is shouting at the referee of the rugby match he is watching on the television but he is still shouting!! I'm afraid I can't get excited about rugby so I'm on here catching up with blogs and planning what to sell at the "Vide Grenier" in the next village at Easter.

A Vide Grenier is a car boot sale and they are very popular in France. I'm planning to do a cakes and produce stall as the French seem to love English produce - cakes, biscuits, sweets, jams, pickles and any produce from the garden. April is notorious for being an empty month for fresh produce but I may have rhubarb, spring cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli. Tomorrow I'm going to sow some more seeds to try and sell on as seedlings.

Oh 'eck - he's shouting again - not sure quite why but I'm off to see what preserves I've already got and what others I can make. Now where is my recipe for lemon curd?

  1. hey there thanks for you comment and well wishes. I am slowly starting to feel better. Not asa quickly as I hoped, but I slept a full 4 hours last night so it is a start.

I am scared of car boots, when we did one, before we had even got out of the car, some people were already in my boot ferreting around. I didnt get a second to sort myself out.

We did very well though as we sorted out PB's office and had lots of bits and bobs (computer thingys, dingles or something like that).

Bonne Chance! Lemon curd is one of my favourites.

  2. Excuse me? You can't get excited about rugby? Are you human?

  3. Some things are more important, more enjoyable and fulfilling than Rugby. Shocking I know, but true.

And, yes, car boots are scary, every person for themselves ~ never again.

  4. Ooooh I love car boot sales! So much stuff to rumage through and a great opportunity for a chat.
Good luck with your stall and I too cannot get excited about rugby! :) x

  5. The bit I hate about car boot sales is the poring over your stuff by the professional boot fair buyers eager to cherry pick the best stuff before you've even had a chance to unload. Does that happen over there too?

Actually I've found e baying stuff less stressful and no child care issues!

  6. I agree about pople rummaging through your boot before you are ready - that happened to us in England. Not sure if that is the case here but then I'm not sure they'd be too interested in flapjacks and scones ;-)

  7. Well, I'd choose rugby over a car boot myself, but car boots are quite fun. Cheapest place by far to get books in France.

We've got one coming in April too. So far I reckon I've got two van-loads to offer, so I'll have to do some pre-selection.

I am very rude to people rummaging around in my stuff trying to make off with things ("Oh - you want MONEY for this. Here have 50 cents Meeessteer Inglish") and have even engaged in a tug of war with a couple. One chap threatened to have us turfed out if we didn't sell him some stuff at the price he wanted. Go on then, said I, and he slunk off mumbling.

    I love them.
